Conjunctivitis

Symptoms of Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
1. Itchy eyes
A key symptom, especially in allergic conjunctivitis. The level of itchiness may vary. If there is no itching, it is less likely to be caused by allergies. Patients may also have a family history of allergies such as asthma or eczema.
2. Eye discharge
The type of discharge can indicate the cause:
- Clear, watery discharge: often due to viral infection or allergies
- White, mucus-like discharge: commonly from allergies or dry eyes
- Thick, pus-like discharge: often accompanied by crusting on the eyelids in the morning, usually caused by bacterial infection
3. Redness in one or both eyes
- Both eyes affected at the same time: often due to allergies
- Starts in one eye and spreads to the other: commonly caused by bacteria, viruses, or *Chlamydia*
- Chronic redness in one eye: should be evaluated by a doctor
4. Eye pain or light sensitivity
May indicate more serious conditions such as glaucoma or uveitis. Seek medical attention immediately if these symptoms occur with red eye.
5. Blurred vision
Vision is usually normal in conjunctivitis. If blurriness persists even after blinking, consult a doctor.
6. Other history
Includes recent cold, use of eye drops or artificial tears, cosmetics, underlying diseases, or regular medications
Complications
Common Corneal inflammation (keratitis), which may cause blurred vision. Severe More likely in patients with poor rest, weakened immunity, or malnutrition
