Phuket, Thailand – Bangkok Hospital Group in Phuket officially inaugurated the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, marking a significant milestone in advancing comprehensive cancer care under the “Care Beyond Cure” philosophy. The institute integrates the expertise and capabilities of Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, and Dibuk Hospital into a unified and integrated cancer care network for international patients.
The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Mr.Suvit Pansangiam, Vice Governor of Phuket, and attended by Dr. Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, M.D., President of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), Dr. Kongkiat Kespechara Chief Executive Officer of Group 6, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) together with BDMS executives, representatives from foreign consulates, medical partners, members of the media, and distinguished guests. The event underscored another important milestone in cancer care ecosystem.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Art Hiranyakas, M.D., PhD., Director of Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute and Bangkok-Phuket Colorectal Disease Institute, presented the institute’s vision and capabilities. He stated that the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute is guided by the “Care Beyond Cure” philosophy, emphasizing comprehensive, patient-centered care throughout every stage of the cancer treatment journey. This approach is delivered through the collaboration of a multidisciplinary medical team, the integration of advanced medical technologies, and a personalized & precision cancer care approach that tailors treatment plans to each patient’s individual needs. One of the institute’s key priorities is organ preservation, aiming to minimize the impact of treatment while preserving function and enhancing patients' quality of life.

The opening of the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute aligns with the growing global demand for cancer medical tourism. A market analysis report on oncology treatment tourism estimates the global market at approximately US$ 7.8 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at an average rate of 10.7% per year, with the Asia Pacific region representing the largest market share, driven by factors such as advanced treatment technology, hospital standards, and highly skilled medical personnel.¹ Thailand has been recognized as one of the world’s leading medical tourism destinations, ranking second globally in Travel and Tour World's (TTW) list of the Best Medical Tourism Destinations. The country has also established itself as a premier medical tourism destination in Asia², with Phuket playing a pivotal role thanks to its internationally accredited hospitals, an international airport, and world-class healthcare infrastructure designed to serve patients from around the world³.
The Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute provides comprehensive cancer care across the entire patient journey, from screening and diagnosis to surgery, medication, radiation therapy, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up. The institute also serves as a center for advanced second-opinion consultations, where multidisciplinary teams of specialists collaborate to develop personalized treatment plans at every stage, ensuring coordinated and continuous care. This integrated model is powered by the combined expertise and resources of Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, Dibuk Hospital, and the Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth, enabling patients to access high-standard treatment more quickly, reducing waiting times while increasing treatment opportunities. An international patient service center, supported by a multilingual care coordination team, provides dedicated assistance to patients and their families throughout every step of the treatment journey.

Dr. Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, M.D., President of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS), stated that the opening of the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute reflects BDMS’s commitment to building an integrated network of Centers of Excellence and leveraging the collective expertise and capabilities of its network of hospitals to provide access to world-class treatment, internationally-standard cancer care for both Thai and international patients. This initiative will further strengthen Thailand’s position as an international medical and health hub.

Mr. Suvit Pansangiam Vice Governor of Phuket added that the opening of the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute marks another significant milestone in public-private collaboration to strengthen Phuket’s healthcare ecosystem. The institute will expand access to high-quality cancer care, reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized treatment, and further enhance Phuket’s position as a leading regional medical and wellness hub, serving local communities, both domestic and international visitors, and patients from around the world.
