Hyperthyroidism: Check the Symptoms Yourself

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism (Overactive Thyroid) is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. This causes the body’s metabolism to increase, leading to symptoms such as rapid and unexplained weight loss, fast or irregular heartbeat, excessive sweating, irritability, and nervousness.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

Common symptoms may include:

๐ Mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty concentrating

๐ Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

๐ Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)

๐ Eye problems such as bulging eyes or double vision

๐ Changes in hair health, including brittle hair and hair loss

๐ Irregular menstrual cycles in women, with lighter or inconsistent periods

๐ Muscle weakness, especially in the thighs and upper arms

๐ Abnormally fast nail growth

๐ Rapid heartbeat (more than 100 beats per minute), particularly in older adults

๐ Hand tremors

๐ Itching

๐ Excessive sweating

๐ Thin or delicate skin

๐ Weight loss despite increased appetite

๐ Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia) in some cases

When Should You See a Doctor?

If you begin to experience these symptoms, it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible. These symptoms may indicate hyperthyroidism or other underlying health problems, including possible adrenal gland tumors.
