Digital mammogram screening is a method of examination using X-Rays specifically designed to detect abnormalities in the breast, using equipment designed only for breast screening. It can detect breast cancer from its early stages when the cancerous lump is too small for you or your doctor to feel.
The basic procedure involves the patient standing at the machine and placing the breast between two flat surface plates, which apply gentle compression. You might feel discomfort or mild pain, but the actual compression only lasts for 2-3 seconds, and the entire examination takes only a few minutes. The radiation exposure is minimal, and there’s virtually no risk from the screening.
