Thailand takes two spots on the list, earning global praise from travelers

Travel + Leisure magazine has officially announced the World’s Best Awards 2025, featuring the Top 15 Cities in Asia. Among cities from nine countries, Chiang Mai, Thailand, has proudly claimed the No. 1 spot, surpassing global favorites like Tokyo and Bangkok.

Why Chiang Mai Captivated the World
Voters praised Chiang Mai for its “super friendly people, amazing food, and rich culture.” Highlights include the iconic Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a sacred temple perched on a mountain with sweeping views of the city. Chiang Mai’s vibrant night markets, offering dishes like khao soi (coconut curry noodle soup) and mango sticky rice, also left a lasting impression on visitors.

The city’s lush surroundings and accessibility to nature-based experiences — including ethical elephant encounters and hiking in national parks — were another major draw. As one reader shared, Chiang Mai is “a great place to see the elephants and to feed and wash them.”
