Director-General of Thailand’s Department of Disease Control Visits Sa Kaeo, Inspects Evacuation Centers for Thai–Cambodian Border Displacement, Orders Strict Disease Prevention Measures

The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) has visited Sa Kaeo Province to inspect evacuation centers housing people displaced by the Thai–Cambodian border situation, stressing strict disease prevention and control measures to safeguard public health.
On December 15, 2025, Dr. Montien Kanasawad M.D., Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, conducted a field visit to evacuation centers in Sa Kaeo to monitor the health and well-being of displaced residents. During the visit, he offered encouragement to officials from all sectors working on the ground and provided essential medical supplies to support disease prevention and control efforts. The visit was joined by Dr.Anek Mungomklang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, along with senior officials from regional disease prevention and control offices.

Dr. Montien stated that the Department places high priority on protecting the health of people staying in evacuation centers, particularly the prevention of communicable diseases that may arise from living in crowded conditions. He assigned the Department’s Surveillance and Rapid Response Teams (SRRT) to work closely with local public health agencies to strengthen disease surveillance, health screening, and risk-factor control, aiming to prevent outbreaks within the shelters. Special emphasis was placed on continuous care for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
Meanwhile, Dr.Anek Mungomklang, Deputy Director-General, said local authorities have been instructed to closely monitor and reduce the risk of food- and water-borne diseases. Measures include providing food sanitation guidance to shelter food handlers, food donors, and residents, emphasizing the consumption of properly cooked, hot, and hygienic food. He also stressed the importance of ensuring food and drinking water safety, along with proper waste and sanitation management within the evacuation centers.
At the same time, local public health agencies are carrying out regular health surveillance among evacuees and continuously assessing health risks to ensure residents receive safe and appropriate healthcare services. These efforts aim to enable displaced people to live safely and with dignity in evacuation centers throughout the duration of the situation.
