The Thai Medical and Wellness Tourism Association (TMWTA) has officially appointed Dr Anusak Kongmalai as its second President, marking a significant step forward in advancing Thailand’s ambition to become a leading global Medical & Wellness Tourism Hub.
The appointment was announced during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held on April 29, 2026, at the Private Hospital Association Conference Room in Bangkok. The meeting reviewed the Association’s performance and elected a new 17member executive committee for the 2026 - 2029 term.
Dr Anusak Kongmalai was unanimously selected by the committee to succeed Dr. Med. Prapa Wongphaet, the founding President, who has played a key role in developing the Association’s mission for over 14 years.
A founding member of TMWTA, Dr Anusak previously served as Secretary-General and Vice President of the Association. He also brings extensive national level experience, having served two terms as a Senator (2008 - 2011 and 2019 - 2024), and as Secretary to the Senate Standing Committee on Tourism. In these roles, he has been instrumental in advancing policies related to medical and wellness tourism, as well as organizing national level forums to strengthen Thailand’s service and trade competitiveness on the global stage.
Upon assuming his new role, Dr Anusak expressed his gratitude to the Association’s members and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing and elevating its strategic mission. He emphasized the Association’s role as a key economic driver, a platform for public private collaboration, and a connector for stakeholders across the Medical & Wellness Tourism ecosystem.
Looking ahead, under Dr Anusak’s leadership, TMWTA will focus on several strategic priorities, including strengthening industry networks through cluster integration, promoting innovation and emerging technologies such as digital health and AI, enhancing international standards and accreditation, and supporting knowledge development and professional training in the Medical & Wellness Tourism sector.
These initiatives aim to reinforce Thailand’s global competitiveness and accelerate its transformation into a world-class destination for health and wellness tourism.
The Association will also continue to expand its communication efforts to increase awareness and engagement among members and stakeholders, ensuring inclusive participation in the development of this high-potential industry.
Dr Anusak Kongmalai’s appointment represents a pivotal milestone for TMWTA, positioning the organization to play a stronger role on the international stage and to contribute meaningfully to Thailand’s long term vision of becoming a sustainable global hub for medical and wellness tourism.
