Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo  — The number of confirmed Ebola virus disease cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has surpassed 2,100, as the outbreak continues to spread at an unprecedented pace, according to the World Health Organization.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said armed conflict, insecurity, and resistance from some communities have obstructed access to affected areas and limited the effectiveness of outbreak-control measures.

The unstable security situation has made it more difficult for health teams to identify suspected cases, trace contacts, provide treatment, conduct vaccinations, and communicate public health guidance to communities at risk.

Despite intensified disease surveillance, medical care, and research activities, the WHO warned that the outbreak continues to advance faster than response operations can contain it.

Health authorities and international partners are working to strengthen case detection, improve access to treatment, and expand community engagement. However, continued violence and public mistrust remain major challenges to bringing the outbreak under control.

The latest figures underline the urgent need for coordinated public health action, secure access for medical personnel, and stronger cooperation with local communities to prevent further transmission and loss of life.
