Bangkok, March 31, 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has taken a significant step in strengthening international tourism cooperation by signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Sanya Tourism Promotion Board of the People’s Republic of China. The agreement was signed during the Sanya Tourism Promotion Press Conference in Thailand, held at the China Cultural Center in Bangkok.
The LOI was signed by Ms. Sirikatesanong Triratnatrongphon, Executive Director for East Asia Region at TAT, and Ms. Ma Nan, Director of the Sanya Tourism Promotion Office. The partnership aims to elevate strategic collaboration between Thailand and Sanya through the concept of “Two-way Tourism,” promoting balanced and sustainable travel flows between the two destinations.

Under this agreement, both parties will actively collaborate across multiple dimensions, including promoting travel between Thailand and China, conducting joint international marketing and public relations campaigns, and developing as well as connecting tourism products and travel routes. The partnership also emphasizes the exchange of key opinion leaders (KOLs) and influencers to drive digital engagement and inspire travel through modern communication platforms. In addition, both sides discussed future cooperation opportunities, such as enhancing connectivity between destinations and improving travel facilitation to support the continued growth of tourist flows between the two countries.

Sanya, located in Hainan Province, is recognized as one of China’s premier international coastal tourism destinations and serves as a key gateway linking China with the ASEAN region. With strong economic potential and increasing travel demand, Sanya plays an important role in regional tourism development. At the same time, Thailand remains a highly attractive destination for Chinese travelers, particularly among high-spending segments such as millennials, families, and health and lifestyle oriented premium travelers who are interested in wellness, cultural, and lifestyle experiences.
Through its tourism strategy “Amazing Thailand, The Journey Your Heart Leads,” Thailand continues to position itself as a destination that offers meaningful and high quality travel experiences. This is further reinforced by initiatives such as “Trusted Thailand,” which aim to enhance traveler confidence and ensure quality standards across the tourism sector.
The signing of this LOI marks another milestone in advancing Thailand China tourism relations, with a focus on driving sustainable growth through the Two-way Tourism mechanism. By strengthening mutual awareness, fostering cultural exchange, and encouraging travel between the two countries, the partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term development and resilience of the tourism industry in both Thailand and China.
