Thailand’s Fourth-Highest Peak Hosts ‘Phu Soi Dao Conquest Festival’ for Winter Tourism Season

Uttaradit, Thailand – The annual Phu Soi Dao Conquest Festival has commenced at Phu Soi Dao National Park in Uttaradit province, inviting thrill-seekers to scale Thailand's fourth-highest peak as part of the winter tourism season. Running from November 1 to January 10, 2025, the festival offers a 3-day, 2-night trekking adventure. The journey begins with a 6.5-kilometer hike to Lan Son Phu Soi Dao, perched at 1,633 meters above sea level, where participants camp for the night.

The following day, trekkers tackle a challenging 3-kilometer ascent to the summit at 2,102 meters. After an overnight stay at Lan Son, they complete their descent on the third morning. To ensure safety, participation is capped at 80 people daily, and climbers must be under 60 and free of pre-existing health conditions.

The route to Phu Soi Dao’s summit is demanding, featuring steep, rugged paths, ropes, and natural obstacles, all while surrounded by mist-shrouded, verdant forests. Park staff are positioned along the trail to assist climbers, enhancing the serene and immersive nature experience.

Covering 125,110 rai (200.18 square kilometers) across districts in Uttaradit and Phitsanulok, Phu Soi Dao National Park is celebrated for its dense forests and picturesque landscapes. Highlights include the five-tiered Phu Soi Dao Waterfall, Sai Thip Waterfall, and a meadow of wildflowers that blooms during the rainy season. The park’s Lan Son Sam Bai, a highland pine plateau, is renowned for its grasslands and sunset vistas, as well as a historic Thai-Laos border marker along Route 1268.

Entrance fees are set at 40 baht for Thai adults and 20 baht for children, while foreign visitors pay 200 baht for adults and 100 baht for children. Amenities include restrooms, showers, parking, and dining services, with the visitor center open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Camping facilities and equipment rentals are available, and reservations can be made through the Department of National Parks website. For safety, peak ascents may be suspended during severe weather conditions.
