Why Are Roots Important?
     Each tooth consists of a crown (visible part) and a root, which anchors the tooth to the jawbone. Inside the root lies the root canal, housing the tooth's nerve or pulp. This pulp signals sensations like pain or sensitivity, such as when drinking something extremely cold. Tiny dentin tubules in the tooth transfer sensations to the pulp.
When cavities are untreated, they can spread, leading to infection in the root canal and causing severe tooth pain. At this stage, a dentist must evaluate if the tooth can be saved. If salvageable, root canal treatment (RCT) becomes necessary.

Signs of Root Canal Issues
     - Extreme sensitivity to hot or cold foods.
     - Persistent toothache.
     - Pain when biting or chewing.
     - Deep cavities or trauma to the tooth.
     - Discoloration of the tooth.
     - History of gum disease.
In some cases, pulp or root canal damage may show no symptoms and can only be detected through X-rays.

Steps in Root Canal Treatment
1.Isolation of the Tooth:
     A rubber dam isolates the infected tooth.
2.Cleaning and Disinfection:
     The infected pulp is removed, and the root canal is cleaned and disinfected. Antibiotics may be applied.
3.Temporary Filling:
     A temporary seal is placed to protect the tooth until follow-up.
4.Permanent Filling or Crown Placement:
     If there are no further complications, the root canal is permanently filled, and the patient is referred for a crown to strengthen the tooth.

Starting the Root Canal Treatment
Initial Consultation:
     - Visit the dentist for an evaluation and treatment planning. If ready, the treatment process begins immediately.
Follow-Up Check:
     - After cleaning and disinfecting the canal, the dentist ensures there are no complications. If all is well, the canal is sealed.
Crown Placement:
     - The patient consults a prosthodontist to discuss adding a crown for durability and protection.

Longevity of Root Canal-Treated Teeth
     Properly treated and restored teeth can last a lifetime with good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups. However, tooth decay can still affect treated teeth, so maintaining oral health is essential to prevent future complications.
