Cataract Unit

Cataract is a condition characterized by the deterioration of the corneal lens to the point of cloudiness. This cloudiness obstructs the passage of light into the eye, leading to impaired vision. Cataracts can cause symptoms such as: 

• Blurred or cloudy vision, especially in bright light, though vision may remain clear in dim light. 

• Double vision, resulting from uneven turbidity of the corneal lens, causing light to refract unevenly onto the retina. 

• Sensitivity to scattered light, often noticed when driving at night. 

• Frequent changes in eyeglasses prescription, with improved near vision or no need for close-up glasses. 

• The appearance of a white patch in the middle of the pupil.  

Cataracts are typically treated through surgical removal of the cloudy lens, replacing it with an artificial lens. The most common surgical method for cataract removal is known as "phacoemulsification," which utilizes high-frequency sound waves.

• Ensure you get adequate sleep. 

• Consume a nutritious diet that promotes eye health. 

• Rest your eyes periodically, especially during prolonged screen use.

• Take precautions to prevent eye injuries, such as wearing protective eyewear during activities that pose a risk. 

• Undergo regular eye check-ups, especially if you're over 40, to monitor your eye health. Annual check-ups are recommended for individuals in this age group.
