Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Complete service information and details

Description

TMS (Transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a machine that stimulates brain cells with electromagnetic waves, a device that uses the principle of transforming electrical energy into high-powered magnetic waves to send through the skull to stimulate different parts of the brain to adjust brain function, causing cells to connect.

The stimulation of EEG brain cells is safe, non-painful, and has no negative side effects on the person receiving the stimulation.

The treatment for each ailment and individual is unique. Some individuals require multiple rounds of stimulation to change the function of brain cells.

Two types of brain stimulation exist.

  • High frequency stimulation to stimulate the function of brain cells in conditions such as depression, paralysis resulting from brain cell death, Parkinson's, etc.
  • Low frequency stimulation to impede the function of brain cells, as in migraines, muscle spasms caused by an ischemic stroke, hand tremors, etc.

This device may be utilized on individuals with the following conditions:

  • Depression
  • Paresis/paralysis caused by brain and spinal cord damage
  • Alzheimer's disease amnesia
  • Chronic pain caused by a number of conditions
  • Muscle ache, office syndrome, and fibromyalgia are three of the most common medical complaints.
  • Neuropathy caused by a pinched nerve or diabetes
  • Diseases of the nervous system, brain, and musculoskeletal system

Contraindications for TMS therapy

  • Individuals with implanted electronic equipment such as pacemakers, cochlear implants, and automated ventricular drainage lines, etc.
  • People who suffer from uncontrolled seizures.
  • Individuals having metal implants in the head, such as cerebral aneurysm clips, etc. This is possible for patients with metal in other regions that are not immediately stimulated.

A physician will evaluate a TMS specialist prior to treatment to see if additional precautions are necessary.

Duration of therapy

Each treatment session lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. The frequency of treatment varies from one to three times per week based on the symptoms and conditions of each individual patient.

Side effects

The majority of patients do not have side effects following treatment. Seizures, which occur in 0.02-0.2% of patients, are the most significant yet infrequent side effect.
Some patients may experience lethargy or drowsiness following stimulation, while others may experience a headache or mild discomfort in the area stimulated.

Overview

TMS uses electromagnetic waves to safely stimulate brain cells, offering high-frequency stimulation for conditions like depression and low-frequency for migraines. It treats depression, paralysis, chronic pain, and more, with sessions lasting 30-60 minutes. Caution is needed for those with certain implants.
