Minimally Invasive Surgery is a modern medical technology that allows surgeons to operate with smaller incisions, resulting in less postoperative pain and faster recovery times compared to traditional open surgery. This enables patients to return to their normal daily activities more quickly.
The surgeon will make 1 to 4 small incisions, each approximately 5–10 mm in size, through the abdominal wall or skin near the target organ. The number of incisions depends on the condition being treated. Special surgical instruments and a tiny camera (laparoscope) are inserted through these incisions. The camera transmits real-time images of the internal organs to a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see the surgical area clearly and perform the procedure with high accuracy and precision.
Smaller scars compared to traditional open surgery
Less postoperative pain
Faster recovery due to less tissue trauma, smaller incisions, reduced adhesions, and lower risk of infection
Lower hospitalization costs due to shorter recovery time
Higher surgery costs due to the use of specialized equipment
Not suitable for all patients, such as those with severe heart or lung conditions
Requires specialized expertise, meaning surgeons and the medical team must be highly trained in laparoscopic techniques
