While exploring the wonders of Thailand, especially the captivating Phi Phi Islands, you may find yourself engaged in thrilling activities. However, adventure sometimes comes with minor accidents and wounds, such as those incurred while walking barefoot on the beach. Every wound, regardless of its size, requires proper and careful care to prevent infection. At WORLDMEDICAL CENTER, we adhere to fundamental wound management principles to ensure your well-being.
Key Principles for Effective Wound Management:
Haemostasis: The process that stops bleeding, often occurring spontaneously in most wounds. However, significant injuries may require interventions like pressure, elevation, tourniquet application, or suturing to control bleeding.
Cleaning the Wound: Wound cleaning is vital for reducing infection and promoting healing. This process involves disinfecting the skin around the wound, avoiding the entry of alcohol or detergents into the wound, manually removing foreign bodies, debriding devitalized tissue, and irrigating the wound with normal saline.
Antibiotics: High-risk wounds or those showing signs of infection may require antibiotics based on local guidelines. Risk factors for wound infection include the presence of foreign bodies, heavily soiled wounds, bites (including human), puncture wounds, and open fractures.
Analgesia: Pain management is essential for humane wound closure. Local anesthesia infiltration is commonly used, complemented by systemic analgesia (paracetamol/Ibuprofen) as needed.
Skin Closure: To aid wound healing, wound edges can be manually opposed using various methods, including skin adhesive strips, tissue adhesive glue, sutures, or staples, depending on the wound's characteristics.
Dressing and Follow-up: Proper wound dressing minimizes infection and contamination. Tetanus prophylaxis is required for individuals not up to date with their tetanus immunization. After initial wound management, patients should seek medical attention for signs of infection, take simple analgesia, keep the wound dry, and follow the removal schedule for sutures or adhesive strips.
Special Dressing Material: BACTIGRAS
We use BACTIGRAS, a specialized dressing material, indicated for the adjunctive treatment and prevention of infection in skin loss lesions, including wounds, burns, and ulcers. BACTIGRAS consists of Chlorhexidine Acetate BP 0.5% in white soft paraffin BP. It should not be used in cases of known sensitivity or allergy to chlorhexidine and should be avoided contact with specific sensitive areas.
At WORLDMEDICAL CENTER, we prioritize your well-being and provide comprehensive wound management to ensure a swift and effective recovery. Your health and comfort are our primary concerns. If you have any questions or require our services, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your health is our mission.
