Wow Great!! Thai Basil Minced Pork with Fried Egg (served with rice) !!! One of most favourite Thai dishes everyone must try. I totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve been living and working in Thailand for about 10 years now, and I’m married to a Thai woman, so food is a huge part of daily life for me. The first few years? I gained weight double!!. It’s just so easy here.

What helped me wasn’t trying to “eat Western healthy,” but learning how to eat Thai food smarter.

First, I stopped ordering random things and started choosing more intentionally. Thai food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. I go for grilled (called Moo-krata), boiled (shabu), steamed or clear soups instead of fried. For example: tom yum (not creamy), tom jued, grilled chicken, som tam (less sugar), larb without extra oil.

Second, I reduced delivery apps a lot. If I’m hungry late at night, I try fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, or nuts instead of scrolling Grab or lineman.

About 7-11 it’s actually possible to eat decently there. I go for boiled eggs, plain yogurt, unsweetened soy milk, salads (skip the dressing or use half), grilled chicken breast packs, or sashimi sets. You just have to ignore 80% of the store or variety snacks lol.

As for the “healthy food is expensive” part, imported stuff like salmon and olive oil adds up. I switched to local alternatives: Thai fish, mackerel, tofu, morning glory, pak kana, pumpkin, long beans. Eating more local produce keeps costs down and still works.

The biggest shift for me though? Portion control. Thai food is flavorful, so you don’t actually need huge amounts to feel satisfied.

And yes… it tastes amazing. I don’t try to resist everything anymore. I just don’t let it be every meal.
