Guangzhou — The 8th China–International Organ Donation Conference and the Belt and Road Academic Conference on International Cooperation in Organ Donation and Transplantation, held in Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong Province, released the 2024 annual report on the development of organ donation and transplantation in China.
According to the report, the number of posthumous organ donors in China reached 6,744 in 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent. In the same year, China added 364,000 new voluntary registrants for posthumous organ donation, with the majority aged between 18 and 35, accounting for 77 percent of all new registrants.
China recorded a total of 11,249 organ donations in 2024, including 6,744 donations from deceased donors and 4,505 from living relatives. Meanwhile, more than 24,000 organ transplant surgeries were performed nationwide during the year.
The conferences were held from Dec. 6 to 8 under the guidance of China’s National Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee, and were organized by the China Organ Transplant Development Foundation and the China Organ Donation Administrative Center.
