What Are Natural Killer Cells?

Natural Killer cells (NK cells) are a type of white blood cell within the lymphocyte group and an important part of the body’s innate immune system. They help identify and respond to abnormal cells, including certain virus-infected and mutated cells, without requiring prior exposure to the threat.

NK cells circulate through the bloodstream and lymphatic system, monitoring signals displayed by cells throughout the body. When an abnormal cell is recognized, NK cells can release perforin, which creates openings in the target cell membrane, and granzymes, which enter through those openings and trigger programmed cell death. NK cells also release cytokines that communicate with and coordinate other parts of the immune system.

How NK Cell Therapy Works

Karnesh Wellness offers an autologous NK Cell Therapy program, using cells collected from the client’s own blood. After medical assessment and blood collection, NK cells are isolated, cultured, expanded, and activated in a specialized laboratory under controlled conditions.

The preparation process generally takes approximately 14–21 days. The prepared cells are then administered back to the client under medical supervision.

NK Cell Activity Test

An NK Cell Activity Test may be performed before treatment to assess:

• NK Cell Count: The number of circulating NK cells in the blood

• NK Cell Activity: The functional ability of NK cells to respond to abnormal cells

These results, together with the client’s medical history, current health status, laboratory findings, and previous treatment history, help the physician determine whether the program is appropriate and develop an individualized care plan.
