Back pain radiating down the leg can be a warning sign of a herniated disc pressing on the nerves, a condition most commonly found in working-age individuals.

"Herniated Disc Pressing on the Nerves" is a condition caused by the degeneration of the spinal structure, leading to compression of the nerves, resulting in nerve inflammation. The warning signs to watch for include:

  • Recurring back or waist pain.
  • Pain radiating down to the leg, calf, or foot, often accompanied by numbness.
  • Inability to walk long distances due to pain and numbness extending to the leg, resembling a cramp, which requires rest before continuing.
  • In severe cases, there may be leg weakness, inability to flex the ankle, or problems with bowel and bladder control.

Stages of Nerve Compression from a Herniated Disc:

  1. Initial Stage: The disc begins to degenerate, leading to chronic pain that may come and go initially but gradually worsens.
  2. Moderate Stage: The disc starts to bulge and press on the nerve, causing pain to radiate from the neck to the arm or from the back to the leg, possibly accompanied by numbness.
  3. Severe Stage: Increased nerve compression leads to more severe pain, numbness, and weakness, potentially resulting in nerve damage and disability.

If diagnosed and treated early, nerve compression from a herniated disc can be effectively managed, allowing individuals to return to normal life and enjoy their favorite activities happily.
