Smart Travel Asia, the leading online travel magazine, has released the results of its Best in Travel Poll 2025, conducted from June through late August. Drawing votes from readers across Asia, Australasia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the survey once again places Bangkok firmly at the top as the No.1 holiday destination in Asia.

Adding to the triumph, Thailand has three cities in the Top 10 list. While Bangkok leads at number one, Chiang Mai ranks third and Phuket comes in fifth. This strong showing underlines Thailand’s reputation as a country with remarkable diversity, offering everything from vibrant culture and natural beauty to world-class lifestyle and leisure experiences.

The poll also sheds light on traveler behavior and preferences. Respondents emphasized that quality of service and human interaction remain key to memorable travel experiences. While younger generations welcomed digital automation and innovation, Gen-X and Baby Boomers still valued personal, human contact. Interestingly, nearly half of the voters admitted they felt confused by travel brands, particularly airlines and hotel chains, due to frequent mergers and the launch of multiple sub-brands.

Travel patterns also revealed that participants took an average of 12 air trips over the past year, down from 16 in 2024, signaling a shift in travel habits following global changes. Dining and nightlife were ranked as the most appealing activities, followed by cultural immersion, shopping, spa and wellness, and nature and adventure travel.

Bangkok’s triumph, alongside Chiang Mai and Phuket’s inclusion in the top ten, reinforces Thailand’s position as a world-class travel hub. It is both a recognition of the country’s enduring appeal and an opportunity to further strengthen its standing as a leading global destination in the years ahead.
