A recent report from Global Residence Index, based on its “2025 Safety Index,” offers a comprehensive look at urban safety across Southeast Asia. The index evaluates not only crime statistics but also a wide range of risk factors, including homicide, kidnapping, political and security threats, natural disasters, and traffic accidents, to give a fuller picture of how safe cities really are.
Among the region’s major urban centers, Bangkok 🇹🇭 stands out as one of the top three safest cities in Southeast Asia, earning a global rank of 111. This achievement highlights Thailand’s progress in strengthening public safety measures in its capital, alongside improvements in infrastructure and traffic management, making Bangkok an increasingly attractive destination for tourists and investors alike.
Singapore 🇸🇬 takes the top spot in the region (7th globally), followed by Jakarta 🇮🇩 and Bangkok. While Bangkok still trails Singapore on the global scale, being listed among Southeast Asia’s safest cities reflects positively on Thailand’s reputation as a secure hub for business and tourism.
The report emphasizes that safety in urban environments depends on more than population size—it also requires strong social systems, effective governance, and efficient law enforcement. Thailand has been making steady progress in these areas, particularly in Bangkok, where authorities continue to improve public safety systems to support millions of residents and visitors each year.
Demographic trends were also highlighted: countries with low birth rates and aging populations tend to score higher on safety indices. With Bangkok continuing to invest in smart infrastructure and innovative technologies, Thailand is positioning its capital as a model for safe, sustainable, and welcoming urban living.
This recognition underscores that Bangkok and Thailand are not only renowned for rich cultural heritage and world-class cuisine, but are also committed to creating a secure and livable environment for everyone.
