Chengdu— The 2nd Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Southwest China, on June 11–12, included a roundtable on precision medicine and digital health innovation in the afternoon of Thursday (June 12). During the session, Chinese and Thai enterprises signed agreements to jointly establish a “Health Silk Road” and deepen cooperation in the field of precision medicine.

Chao Sujie, Director of Bangkok Genomics Innovation Public Company Limited, stated that Thailand, like China, is facing the challenge of an aging society and has a high demand for precision medicine. As a Chinese-Thai biopharmaceutical joint venture, the company has introduced several precision medical technologies from China to Thailand in recent years, such as non-invasive prenatal risk screening technologies.

At the same time, the company is collaborating with 13 Thai universities and research institutions to conduct scientific studies in various areas, including thalassemia detection, early cancer screening, and gut microbiome research. Key collaborations include colorectal cancer screening with Burapha University, Mahidol University, and Chulalongkorn University, as well as thalassemia diagnostics in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Mahidol University.

In addition, the company signed an agreement with Huajing Digital Medical Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. to cooperate in the research and development of digital health technologies, build overseas platforms, expand market presence, and further promote the success of Chinese medical and technological innovations in Thailand.

Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, noted that building a “Digital Silk Road” fosters the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) among participating countries, and enhances opportunities for Global South nations to engage in global technological development.
