China's National Health Commission and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine have jointly launched a campaign to promote essential medical and health services for elderly individuals who are unable to care for themselves, running from 2024 to 2027.
A circular was issued urging qualified medical and public health institutions, particularly grassroots-level facilities, including childcare centers and rehabilitation centers, to provide basic health services, health consultations, and referral guidance for elderly people aged 65 and above who seek such services.
Additionally, healthcare institutions are encouraged to conduct lifestyle and health assessments for these elderly individuals at least once, offer annual health check-ups, and provide yearly health care advice. The institutions should also deploy at least two specialists to offer in-home services to protect the rights and interests of the elderly.
