China’s ‘Caring Dads’ Medical Team Supports Mothers and Newborns in Jiangsu

CHANGZHOU,  —  A team of male doctors at Changzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province is playing an important role in protecting the health and well-being of mothers and newborns, earning the affectionate nickname the “Caring Dads Team.”

More than 20 male physicians currently work across the hospital’s departments related to maternal and child health, including obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics. They account for approximately 20% of the hospital’s doctors in these areas and include both experienced senior physicians and younger members of the medical profession.

Together, the team contributes expertise across different stages of maternal and infant care, supporting women throughout pregnancy and childbirth while also providing medical care for newborns.

Supporting Mothers From Pregnancy Through Childbirth

Maternal and child healthcare requires coordinated medical support throughout pregnancy, delivery and the early stages of a newborn’s life.

At Changzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, multidisciplinary medical teams work together to monitor the health of expectant mothers, manage childbirth and provide appropriate care for infants after delivery.

The hospital delivered nearly 5,000 babies between January and June 2026, reflecting the scale of maternal and newborn care provided by its medical teams.

With a combination of senior specialists and a new generation of physicians, the hospital’s “Caring Dads Team” has become part of the broader healthcare workforce dedicated to ensuring the safety of mothers and their babies.

Professional Care for Mothers and Newborns

The hospital’s medical professionals provide continuous support from pregnancy through childbirth and into neonatal care, with an emphasis on the safety and health of both mother and child.

The presence of more than 20 male doctors in maternal and child health specialties also highlights the diverse range of healthcare professionals working in fields traditionally associated with women’s and children’s healthcare.

Through their combined experience and clinical expertise, the team works alongside other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care throughout one of the most important periods in the lives of mothers and their newborns.
