Beijing — A specialized cardiovascular hospital in China has widely adopted a radiation-free treatment method for heart disease using a percutaneous catheterization technique.
Reports indicate that this treatment method, implemented at Fuwai Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, utilizes ultrasound imaging to guide the delivery of therapeutic instruments from peripheral blood vessels into the heart through a minimally invasive approach.
This technique allows for the avoidance of traditional surgeries and radiation guidance, and patients do not require anesthesia during the procedure.
The hospital stated that pregnant women, patients with allergies, and cancer patients can undergo treatment using this method. Technical obstacles have also been reduced since there is no need for expensive, large-scale equipment.
It is anticipated that this process will enhance the capabilities of primary healthcare services and effectively provide outpatient heart disease treatments, improving access to cardiac care in areas with limited medical resources.
Additionally, this heart treatment method has received funding support from the United Nations (UN).
Currently, the hospital has developed over 17 new treatment methods to address various types of heart and vascular diseases, such as congenital heart defects, valve diseases, and arrhythmias, and holds 65 patents for these innovations.
Moreover, the hospital has developed various medical tools and devices, including ultrasonic catheters and surgical robots, with 23 items now available for service both in China and internationally. The hospital's medical team has also been invited to perform surgeries and share Chinese treatment methods in over 30 countries, including France, Germany, Canada, Russia, and Kenya.
