New E. Coli Outbreak in the U.S. Linked to ‘Organic Carrots’
Los Angeles — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning about a new outbreak of E. Coli infections connected to organic carrots. At least 39 cases have been reported across 18 states, with 15 hospitalizations and one death.
Los Angeles — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning about a new outbreak of E. Coli infections connected to organic carrots. At least 39 cases have been reported across 18 states, with 15 hospitalizations and one death.
The CDC stated that interviews with patients and traceback investigations identified organic carrots and baby carrots distributed by Grimmway Farms, a California-based company, as the source of the outbreak. On Saturday (Nov. 16), Grimmway Farms recalled multiple sizes and brands of bagged organic carrots and baby carrots.
The CDC has urged the public to stop consuming the recalled organic carrots and to sanitize items and surfaces that may have come into contact with them using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher.
E. Coli is a type of bacteria commonly found in various places, including the intestines of humans and animals. While most strains are harmless, certain types can cause severe illness. Symptoms of E. Coli infection include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. Most people recover without treatment within 5-7 days, but some may experience serious kidney complications requiring hospitalization.
