Ramathibodi Wins Cancer Care Team Award, a First for Thailand and Southeast Asia
Ramathibodi Hospital’s multidisciplinary lung cancer team has received the Cancer Care Team Award from the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, becoming the first team in Thailand and Southeast Asia to earn the international recognition.
The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, has announced a major international achievement after the Ramathibodi Lung Cancer Consortium, or RLC, received the Cancer Care Team Award for Asia and the Rest of the World.
The award was presented by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, or IASLC, during the World Conference on Lung Cancer 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. The achievement makes RLC the first team from Thailand and Southeast Asia to receive the global award.
More Than 12 Years of Multidisciplinary Cancer Care
The Ramathibodi Lung Cancer Consortium has continuously developed its lung cancer care system for more than 12 years, with a strong focus on patient-centred treatment.
The team brings together specialists and healthcare professionals from multiple disciplines to coordinate diagnosis, treatment planning, patient follow-up and long-term care. This integrated approach helps patients receive appropriate treatment more quickly while reducing unnecessary and repetitive hospital procedures.
A One-Stop Service for Lung Cancer Patients
RLC was established to provide comprehensive lung cancer care through a multidisciplinary team and a one-stop service model.
The system is designed to make treatment more convenient and efficient, reduce the number of hospital visits and enable patients to begin appropriate treatment within the recommended timeframe.
The team’s care model covers the entire patient journey, including diagnosis, cancer staging, treatment planning, coordination between specialists, monitoring and continuing care.
Combining Patient Care, Research and Innovation
In addition to clinical care, the team has developed research and medical innovation in areas such as clinical research, precision medicine and cancer biobanking.
These capabilities support the development of new medical knowledge and may help healthcare teams provide treatments that are increasingly tailored to the individual needs and characteristics of each patient.
The multidisciplinary team includes medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine specialists, radiation oncologists, nurses, pharmacists, researchers and other healthcare professionals involved throughout the treatment process.
Expanding the RLC Model Nationwide
Ramathibodi Hospital plans to further develop the RLC model as a national example of multidisciplinary lung cancer care.
The hospital also aims to transfer its knowledge, treatment processes and operational model to healthcare networks across Thailand. The objective is to help patients access timely, high-quality and standardised lung cancer treatment closer to their homes, regardless of which hospital they visit.
The initiative is expected to reduce disparities in access to cancer treatment while helping hospitals improve coordination, shorten service processes and provide care according to common professional standards.
The Cancer Care Team Award reflects the importance of collaboration across medical disciplines and demonstrates how an integrated, patient-centred system can improve both treatment quality and the quality of life of people living with lung cancer.
