Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has claimed the top spot as the airport with the highest number of airlines in the world, serving as many as 113 airlines. It surpassed Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, which dropped to second place. Meanwhile, Singapore’s Changi Airport came in at ninth.
Suvarnabhumi has become the world’s number one airport in terms of airline presence. Authorities have instructed Airports of Thailand (AOT) to accelerate development efforts across all airports, with the goal of placing Thailand among the top 20 best airports in the world.
According to a report by Brilliant Maps, Suvarnabhumi Airport now hosts 113 airlines, topping the global list. It is followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with 105 airlines, Dubai International Airport with 97, Istanbul Airport with 93, Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport with 92, Milan Malpensa Airport with 86, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Narita International Airport with 83 each, Singapore Changi Airport with 82, and Frankfurt Airport with 80.
Officials also stated that the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies will continue to push for improvements in Thailand’s aviation industry, aiming for greater efficiency and sustainable growth. These efforts are expected to enhance trade, investment, and tourism, contributing to the country’s economic recovery.
One of the key targets is to boost Suvarnabhumi Airport’s passenger handling capacity to 120 million annually. Expansion plans include extending Terminal 1 to the east, accelerating the construction of Terminal 2 to the south near Bang Na-Trat Road, and building a fourth runway.
In addition, the integration of advanced technology and digital systems will be used to fully optimize airport management. Efforts will also be made to enhance the overall passenger experience, ensuring comfort and satisfaction during their time at the airport.
Recently, Suvarnabhumi Airport was ranked 39th among the world’s best airports, an improvement from its previous ranking of 58th. The long-term goal is to break into the global top 20 within the next five years.
