Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand has been ranked 52nd in the World Happiness Report 2026, reinforcing its position as one of Southeast Asia’s better-performing countries in terms of quality of life and overall well-being.

The annual report measures how people evaluate their own lives and is published by the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre in partnership with Gallup and the United Nations. The rankings are based on the Cantril Ladder, which asks respondents to assess their current lives on a scale from the best possible life to the worst possible life. Around 1,000 people per country across 140 countries participated in the survey.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore ranked 36th, Vietnam 45th, and Thailand 52nd, placing Thailand ahead of several regional peers including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. The result highlights Thailand’s relatively positive standing in the region when it comes to people’s perceptions of their daily lives and overall life satisfaction.

Globally, Finland retained its position as the happiest country in the world, followed by Iceland, Denmark, Costa Rica, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Israel, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.

Thailand’s ranking in this year’s report reflects more than just economic conditions. It also points to broader dimensions of well-being, including social support, trust, stability, and the overall quality of life experienced by people in the country. The result offers another positive indicator of Thailand’s long-term social resilience and its appeal as a place associated with warmth, livability, and balance.

As countries around the world increasingly focus on well-being as a development goal, Thailand’s position in the 2026 ranking underscores the importance of building not only economic strength, but also a society in which people feel supported, connected, and optimistic about their lives.
