Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, offers several advantages over traditional open surgery. Here are some reasons why laparoscopic surgery is considered better in many cases:

Less Pain: Laparoscopic surgery involves making small incisions, which leads to less tissue damage and trauma compared to larger incisions in open surgery. As a result, patients typically experience less postoperative pain.
Faster Recovery of Intestinal Function: The minimal invasiveness of laparoscopic surgery allows the intestines to recover and resume normal functioning more quickly. Patients can usually start eating sooner after the surgery compared to open surgery, where the recovery period for intestinal function is longer.
Minimal Scarring: The small incisions made during laparoscopic surgery result in smaller scars or sometimes no visible scars at all. This is especially beneficial from a cosmetic standpoint, as the incisions are much smaller and less noticeable compared to the larger incision required in open surgery.
Fewer Complications: Laparoscopic surgery is associated with a lower risk of complications compared to open surgery. The smaller incisions reduce the chances of infection, wound complications, and blood loss. Additionally, the reduced tissue trauma can result in a lower risk of complications such as hernias.

Enhanced Visualization: The use of a slender camera and magnification in laparoscopic surgery allows surgeons to have a detailed and magnified view of the operative area. This enables them to perform the surgery with precision and accuracy, particularly in complex procedures such as tumor abdominal surgery, gynecological surgery, and urological surgery.
Shorter Hospital Stay: Due to the less invasive nature of laparoscopic surgery and the faster recovery time, patients often have shorter hospital stays compared to open surgery. They can return home sooner and resume their regular routines with less downtime.

In contrast, open surgery involves larger incisions, more tissue trauma, and longer recovery periods. Patients undergoing open surgery typically experience more pain, a higher risk of complications, and a longer delay in intestinal function recovery.

Laparoscopic surgery has revolutionized many surgical procedures by offering patients a less invasive and more efficient treatment option. However, it is important to note that the suitability of laparoscopic surgery depends on various factors, including the specific condition, the expertise of the surgical team, and the patient's overall health. The decision to perform laparoscopic surgery is made by the surgeon based on individual patient assessment and clinical considerations.
