Thai FDA Confirms: No “Listeria”-Contaminated Pasta Sold in Thailand — Advises Consumers to Avoid Raw Foods and Reheat Before Eating

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that no pasta products contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes as reported in a recent outbreak in the United States are being imported or sold in Thailand. The FDA conducted an urgent investigation after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported an outbreak linked to ready-to-eat pasta products, which infected 27 people and caused 6 deaths in the U.S.

The FDA verified that none of the recalled products  Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine and Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo  are distributed in Thailand.

The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which causes Listeriosis, is commonly found in the environment and can survive in a wide range of temperatures  from body temperature to refrigerator conditions. Because it is widespread, it can easily contaminate food. However, the bacteria can be destroyed by proper cooking temperatures.

Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to mild flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, or severe illness that may be life-threatening  especially for pregnant women, newborns, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Therefore, maintaining proper hygiene and temperature control during food preparation, packaging, storage, and transportation is essential.

The FDA advises consumers to store ready-to-eat foods in the refrigerator immediately, reheat them thoroughly before eating, and avoid consuming raw or undercooked foods to prevent infection and protect their health.
