Thailand and Thai Public Health System Voted as Number One, Aiming to Become a Medical Hub by 2026

In a global poll conducted by offices worldwide, the Thai public health system has been overwhelmingly voted as the number one in the region. The system has garnered praise for its outstanding performance across various evaluation criteria, positioning Thailand on the path to becoming a prominent Medical Hub by the year 2026. 

This recognition comes on the heels of a recent ranking released by Newsweek Magazine and Statista, a reputable German data provider, which listed the world's best hospitals for 2023. While the United States dominated the top ten with five hospitals, Singapore General Hospital was the sole Asian representative to make the cut. Notably, 'Bumrungrad Hospital,' a leading Thai medical institution, secured the 182nd spot on the list. 

Newsweek and Statista also evaluated the best hospitals within Thailand for the same year, with Bumrungrad Hospital clinching the top position. The top 10 hospitals in Thailand according to this ranking include:

The criteria for determining the best hospitals globally encompassed several key areas: 

An online survey involving over 80,000 doctors, hospital administrators, and medical personnel from 2,300 hospitals across 28 countries. Patient experiences, including overall satisfaction and recommendations, as well as satisfaction with medical treatment. Hospital quality index, which assessed specialized care, patient safety, hygiene measures, and the doctor-to-patient or nurse-to-patient ratio. Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), used to evaluate treatment outcomes. 

Thailand's remarkable performance in the field of health extends beyond hospital rankings. The Atlantic Council Institute's report on the Freedom and Prosperity Index for 2023 highlighted Thailand's impressive health score of 90.9 points, the highest among all indicators, reinforcing the nation's commitment to healthcare excellence. 

Furthermore, numerous public health security index reports, including those from John Hopkins University and the Nuclear Threat Initiative, consistently rank Thailand among the world's top countries with robust public health systems. In 2019, Thailand was lauded as the 6th best-prepared nation globally and the leading country in Asia to handle epidemics. 

In a related development, CEO World Magazine's 2021 Health Care Index positioned Thailand as the 13th best out of 89 countries worldwide and 4th in Asia, following South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Thailand's outstanding performance in infrastructure, medical personnel, healthcare expenses per person, medicine availability, and government readiness all contributed to this impressive ranking. 

This series of accolades and rankings further solidify Thailand's aspiration to become an "International Health Hub" or Medical Hub by 2026. The country is steadfast in its commitment to elevating healthcare standards, thereby bolstering its reputation as a global leader in healthcare and medical tourism.
