Food Intolerance: Mild Symptoms That May Become Persistent

What Is Food Intolerance?

Food intolerance occurs when the body has difficulty processing certain foods or ingredients. Symptoms typically appear several hours after eating and can last for hours or even days.

Because these symptoms are often mild and develop gradually, many people do not realize that certain foods are affecting their health. Regularly consuming the same trigger foods can cause symptoms to return or become persistent.

Note: Food intolerance is entirely different from a food allergy. It does not cause sudden, life-threatening allergic reactions.

What Causes Food Intolerance?

Food intolerance can stem from several causes, including difficulty digesting certain ingredients, sensitivity to food additives or natural compounds, and individual digestive or metabolic differences.

Since the triggers vary from person to person and often involve frequently eaten foods, identifying the exact connection between a specific food and recurring symptoms can be challenging.

Possible Symptoms

These symptoms can also be caused by other underlying health conditions. A medical consultation is highly recommended for an accurate assessment.

  • Bloating, abdominal discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Persistent tiredness or low energy
  • Difficulty sleeping or waking up feeling unrefreshed
  • Difficulty concentrating or brain fog
  • Unexplained muscle or joint discomfort
  • Skin rashes or itching
  • Difficulty managing body weight

Foods Often Associated with Symptoms

Food intolerance can be triggered by many different ingredients. Examples commonly included in food screening panels are:

  • Milk and dairy products (e.g., cheese, yogurt, and butter)
  • Eggs
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Rice, wheat, and other grains
  • Seafood
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Herbs, spices, and food additives

Food Intolerance Test at TRIA

TRIA Medical Wellness Center offers a blood-based Food Intolerance Test that screens responses to up to 222 everyday food items.

Your results will be reviewed alongside your symptoms, eating habits, and medical history. Our healthcare professionals will then provide personalized guidance to help you make the right dietary adjustments.

Important: Test results should be interpreted by a qualified healthcare professional and should not be used alone to confirm a food allergy or to eliminate multiple foods from your diet without supervision.

Who Should Consider a Food Intolerance Test?

This test may be suitable for individuals experiencing recurring or unexplained symptoms, such as:

  • Frequent bloating, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Recurrent headaches or migraines
  • Persistent fatigue or tiredness
  • Recurring skin concerns
  • Digestive discomfort after meals
  • Symptoms that seem food-related but are difficult to pinpoint

Potential Benefits

  • Identify specific foods associated with your recurring symptoms

  • Better understand the relationship between what you eat and your well-being
  • Receive support for personalized dietary planning
  • Avoid unnecessary or overly restrictive diets
  • Obtain professional guidance tailored to your individual health needs

How Is Office Syndrome Treated with Thai Traditional Medicine?

“I feel better after a massage, but after a while, the pain comes back again.” This is one of the most common things many office syndrome patients often say. The reason is that relaxation massage ≠ office syndrome treatment. General massage only works on the superficial muscle layer and does not address the root cause of deep-level blockage.

What Causes a Sagging Belly? A Common Concern That Can Be Improved and Made Firm Again

Whether you have a higher body weight or a slim body shape, the problem of a “sagging belly” or loose abdominal skin can equally affect your confidence. Many people try sit-ups, diet control, or intense exercise, but the belly may still appear loose, hanging, or folded downward, without becoming flat, firm, or toned.
