The Acne Cycle and Skin Damage May Be Caused by Hidden Food Allergies

Acne: A Persistent and Frustrating Problem for Many

Acne is a common concern that can be both distressing and difficult to manage for many people. It is often a chronic condition that is hard to treat and can significantly affect self-confidence, sometimes even impacting social interactions and daily life.

Acne Can Be Caused by Many Factors

Acne can result from various causes, including

 - Hormonal changes

 - Lack of sleep

 - Stress

 - Consuming too much sugary or fatty food

 - Clogged pores due to poor hygiene or using skincare products unsuitable for your skin

While many people are already aware of these common causes, fewer realize that acne may also be linked to hidden food allergies within the body.

How Is Acne Related to Hidden Food Allergies?

Hidden Food Allergy (Food Intolerance)

Hidden food allergy is a condition in which consuming certain foods repeatedly in large amounts-combined with a “leaky gut” condition-allows partially digested food particles to pass into the bloodstream. The immune system then reacts by producing antibodies to fight these substances, leading to inflammation throughout the body.

Unlike typical food allergies, symptoms do not occur immediately. Instead, they develop gradually over several hours or even days. The symptoms are usually mild but can affect multiple systems in the body, such as:

 - Skin issues like rashes or chronic acne

 - Respiratory symptoms and chronic allergies

 - Digestive problems such as bloating, constipation, and acid reflux

 - Neurological symptoms like insomnia, headaches, or migraines

Because the symptoms are delayed and varied, hidden food allergies can be difficult to identify without proper evaluation.

Therefore, individuals who suffer from chronic acne that does not fully resolve-despite trying various treatments-may actually have an underlying cause such as hidden food allergies. When these hidden allergies occur, they can trigger inflammation throughout the body, including the skin. As a result, acne can develop at the skin level, which is quite commonly observed.

How Can You Know If You Have Hidden Food Allergies?

A blood test can help determine whether you have hidden food allergies. This test can identify reactions to up to 222 different types of foods. It is a convenient method that does not require fasting beforehand, and the results are typically available within 2 weeks.

How Is Hidden Food Allergy Treated?

Treatment for hidden food allergies is typically divided into three levels:

  • Red Level: Indicates a high level of sensitivity. It is recommended to completely avoid these foods for 3-6 months.
  • Yellow Level: Indicates mild to moderate sensitivity. These foods should be limited to no more than once per week.
  • Green Level: Indicates no sensitivity, and these foods can be consumed as usual.

After avoiding red-level foods for 3-6 months and once symptoms have improved, these foods can be gradually reintroduced in appropriate amounts. However, they should not be consumed in large quantities or too frequently, as this may trigger the allergy again.
