Vaginal Filler: Restoring Intimate Health Without Surgery

Understanding Vaginal Filler: A New Option for Improving Intimate Health
Women’s intimate health is just as important as external beauty. Although it concerns an area that is not normally visible, it can play an important role in confidence, comfort, and overall quality of life.
As women age or experience significant life events such as childbirth, the vaginal tissues may become less firm or lose elasticity. These changes may affect both the external appearance and internal sensations. Vaginal filler is one of the non-surgical options currently available for women experiencing these concerns.
Factors That May Contribute to Vaginal Looseness
Vaginal and pelvic-floor changes may be associated with several factors, including:
๐ Vaginal childbirth
๐ Increasing age
๐ Strenuous physical activities
๐ High-impact sports
๐ Work involving heavy lifting
๐ Standing or walking for long periods
๐ Frequent or prolonged sexual intercourse
When the vaginal area becomes less firm, the effects may extend beyond appearance. Possible concerns include:
๐ Reduced firmness of the external intimate area
๐ Looseness of the vaginal walls
๐ Vaginal dryness or reduced moisture
๐ Unpleasant vaginal odour
๐ Air passing from the vagina
๐ Urinary leakage when coughing or sneezing
๐ Reduced confidence during sexual intercourse
These concerns may affect personal confidence, daily life, and intimate relationships. Several surgical and non-surgical treatments are now available, depending on the severity of the symptoms and the individual’s needs.
Treatment Options for Vaginal Looseness
Dr Nataya Rakpuang, a specialist in women’s intimate health and an American Board-certified aesthetic gynaecologist, explains the available treatment options as follows.
Surgical Vaginal Repair
Vaginal repair is a surgical procedure performed to strengthen the pelvic-floor muscles, improve vaginal firmness, narrow the vaginal canal, and restore muscular contraction.
It may be suitable for women with significant vaginal looseness or substantial weakening of the pelvic-floor muscles.
Vaginal Laser Treatment
Vaginal laser treatment is a non-surgical option that uses energy-based technology to stimulate collagen production, improve blood circulation, encourage natural lubrication, and support the internal vaginal environment.
It may be suitable for women with mild vaginal looseness who want to improve firmness without surgery.
Vaginal Filler Injection
Vaginal filler is a non-surgical technique intended to improve the appearance and firmness of the intimate area. It may also help increase the volume and thickness of the external tissues and support thin vaginal walls.
The treatment may be considered for women experiencing:
๐ Thin vaginal tissue
๐ Loss of volume in the external intimate area
๐ Vaginal dryness
๐ Reduced tissue firmness
๐ Discomfort associated with tissue thinning
The filler used should be an approved product specifically designed for injection into the intimate area.
Levels of Vaginal Looseness and Suitable Treatments
Before selecting a treatment, an internal examination should be performed. The doctor will assess the condition and severity of vaginal looseness before recommending the most appropriate method.
The condition may be divided into five levels.
Level 1: Mild Vaginal Looseness
Mild looseness may be treated with vaginal laser therapy to improve vaginal firmness.
The laser device should meet recognised safety standards, and the energy level should be adjusted according to each person’s vaginal condition.
Level 2: Moderate Vaginal Looseness
At this level, the vaginal opening may begin to widen and the vaginal walls may become less firm. Urinary leakage may also occur.
Vaginal thread lifting may be considered to lift and tighten the vaginal area while improving its external appearance.
Level 3: Significant Vaginal Looseness
Women may experience a widened vaginal opening, pelvic-organ or uterine prolapse, and a clear loss of firmness.
Surgical vaginal repair may be recommended. The procedure may involve deeper suturing to repair the pelvic-floor muscles and restore vaginal firmness.
Level 4: Severe Looseness with Unmeasurable Vaginal Pressure
In cases where the vaginal canal is severely stretched and bladder prolapse is present, vaginal pressure may not be measurable.
An anterior and posterior repair, or AP repair, may be performed to repair both the front and back walls of the vagina and reposition the bladder and uterus appropriately.
The operation may take approximately three to four hours and is performed under general anaesthesia by an anaesthesiologist. Discharge depends on the patient’s recovery and the doctor’s assessment.
Level 5: Severe Looseness Associated with Very Thin Tissue
For women whose vaginal walls are very thin and dry, with a thickness of less than one centimetre, vaginal filler injection may be considered.
Approximately 2-5 cc of filler may be used, depending on the doctor’s assessment. The filler is intended to:
๐ Increase tissue thickness
๐ Strengthen and support the vaginal walls
๐ Improve moisture and lubrication
๐ Restore volume to the intimate area
๐ Reduce discomfort associated with thin or dry tissue
Only approved fillers specifically developed for use in the vaginal area should be selected.
Medical Assessment Before and After Treatment
Women considering treatment for vaginal looseness should undergo an intimate health examination before and after the procedure. The results can be recorded as part of their medical history and used to monitor changes over time.
Patients should also attend all scheduled follow-up appointments and consult an appropriate specialist before making a treatment decision.
Consulting an experienced aesthetic gynaecologist can help ensure that the treatment is:
๐ Appropriate for the individual condition
๐ Performed safely
๐ Targeted to the actual concern
๐ Planned to provide clear and sustainable results
The most suitable treatment depends on the condition of the vaginal tissues, the severity of looseness, overall health, and the individual’s expectations.
