Do not overlook snoring, it may risk sleep apnea

Have you ever had these symptoms? Snoring so loudly that the person next to you has to wake you up in the middle of the night, waking up in the morning not feeling refreshed, feeling unusually sleepy during the day, falling asleep easily while working, watching TV, or driving. Some people may experience sudden awakening, gasping for breath in the middle of the night, dry mouth, dry throat, morning headaches, or feeling exhausted throughout the day. These symptoms may seem like small matters, but they could actually be warning signs of sleep apnea.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a condition where the airway narrows or becomes blocked during sleep, causing the body to receive insufficient oxygen. The brain must therefore wake itself up periodically to return to normal breathing. Many people may not realize they have this condition because it occurs while sleeping, but those close to them may notice loud snoring, interrupted breathing, or intervals where breathing seems to stop.

Why should snoring not be overlooked?

Snoring is not just a noise disturbance, but it can affect overall health. If left for a long time, it can lead to poor sleep quality, the body not getting full rest, and impacts on daily life.

- Decreased concentration: Poor quality sleep can lead to slower thinking and inability to work at full efficiency.

- Mood swings: May lead to irritability, fatigue, or not feeling refreshed throughout the day.

- Risk of health problems: Especially for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, overweight, or a large neck circumference.

- Risk of accidents: If abnormally sleepy during the day or accidentally falling asleep while driving.

How can a Sleep Test help assess snoring problems?

The method that helps assess symptoms clearly is a Sleep Test or sleep quality assessment. This is an examination conducted while sleeping to observe breathing patterns, oxygen levels, snoring, apnea, and other abnormalities during sleep. The test results will help doctors evaluate whether the patient has sleep apnea and its level of severity to plan appropriate care and treatment.

Who should consider a Sleep Test?

- Snoring loudly regularly, especially snoring along with interrupted breathing.

- Waking up not feeling refreshed despite sleeping for many hours.

- Being unusually sleepy during the day or falling asleep easily at inappropriate times.

- Having underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, or being overweight.

7 Signs You Should Get a Sleep Test for Sleep Apnea

Snoring or poor sleep may seem normal, but in some cases they can be signs of sleep apnea, a condition that affects overall health and quality of life. If left untreated, it may cause chronic fatigue, daytime sleepiness, reduced concentration, and long-term health problems. A Sleep Test is an important method for evaluating abnormalities during sleep and helping healthcare providers develop an appropriate treatment plan.
