What Is a Facelift? Exploring Surgery at Asia Cosmetic Hospital

Sagging cheeks, a less defined jawline, and changes in the skin around the neck often lead people to research facelift surgery. Before choosing treatment, it helps to understand that facial aging involves more than the surface of the skin. Different facelift procedures also address different areas.

Asia Cosmetic Hospital describes several treatment options, including partial facelift procedures, techniques involving the SMAS tissue layer, and neck lift surgery. A consultation is needed to determine which approach may suit a person's concerns and health. [1]

This ArokaGO guide explains the goals and limitations of facelift surgery and the questions to ask before planning treatment.

What Can a Facelift Address?

A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is surgery intended to improve facial sagging. Depending on the technique, the surgeon may reposition underlying tissues and remove excess skin. Concerns commonly assessed include descended cheeks, jowls along the jawline, and deeper folds associated with tissue descent. Neck concerns may require a separate or combined neck lift plan. [2]

A facelift does not stop aging or correct every skin concern. Uneven pigmentation, sun damage, and fine lines may require a different approach. It is useful to distinguish tissue sagging from skin quality concerns before choosing treatment. [2,3]

Why Does the Whole Face Need Assessment?

Two people who feel that their face looks older may have different concerns. One may have prominent jowls, while another has hollow cheeks or a drooping brow. The same operation may not address both people's goals.

The surgeon considers the areas of sagging together with facial proportions, skin characteristics, and tissue volume. Someone whose main concern is the lower face may not need forehead surgery. Someone with both cheek and neck laxity may need to discuss treatment of both areas. [1,3]

Facelift Options at Asia Cosmetic Hospital

The hospital's service information describes the following options. [1]

• Partial facelift: Addresses selected areas according to the surgical plan.
• Full facelift: Involves a broader treatment area, with the exact scope confirmed during consultation.
• SMAS facelift: Involves adjustment of supporting facial tissues together with skin redraping.
• Neck lift: Addresses neck and under chin concerns where clinically appropriate.

The hospital also describes brow and temporal lift procedures. These have different goals from lower facial lifting and should not be assumed to be included in every facelift.

Who May Be a Suitable Candidate?

Age alone does not determine suitability. People considering surgery should have health that supports wound healing and realistic expectations. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons identifies healthy individuals, nonsmokers, and people with realistic expectations as potential candidates. [4]

Tell the surgeon about medical conditions, regular medicines, and previous facial procedures, including fillers, threads, and surgery. This information can affect treatment planning.

What Should You Ask Before Deciding?

A useful consultation should explain your main concern, the areas to be treated, incision locations, anesthesia, and follow up appointments. Discuss risks such as hematoma, infection, scarring, and facial nerve injury, as well as how complications would be managed. [5]

A starting price may not describe the complete treatment plan. Ask whether the quotation includes medical tests, anesthesia, hospital accommodation, medicines, and follow up care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a facelift have to treat the whole face?
No. When concerns are limited to certain areas, the surgeon may consider a more focused approach. Confirm the exact treatment area before surgery.

Will I still look like myself after a facelift?
Discuss your goals using your existing features as a reference. Surgery cannot guarantee that appearance or facial expression will remain entirely unchanged.

Will I still need skincare after surgery?
Yes. Correcting sagging does not replace skincare or stop changes associated with aging.
