Lose weight before the risk of diabetes... a dangerous threat close to you that is often overlooked.

Currently, the number of people with diabetes in Thailand is increasing, and it is being seen in younger age groups. A major factor contributing to this disease is the consumption of high-fat and high-sugar foods, along with lifestyle habits. Diabetes is often found in working adults, as this is a time when people lead fast-paced lives, eat irregularly, spend many hours working at computers, move less, stay up late, and rarely exercise. These behaviors can lead to long-term accumulated problems. Many people may not realize that even a slight increase in weight can be an early warning sign of the silent threat of diabetes, which may be developing without them knowing.
Dr. Phatrawan Komutbut, an endocrinologist at Hua Chiew Hospital, said that diabetes is a condition caused by an abnormality in blood sugar levels. This is due to the body’s insufficient production of insulin or the body's cells becoming resistant to insulin. As a result, glucose cannot enter the cells as it normally should. Additionally, if the body accumulates too much fat, the cells respond less effectively to insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.
So, what are the consequences?
When blood sugar levels remain high continuously, if left untreated without lifestyle changes, it can lead to type 2 diabetes. This, in turn, may cause various complications, such as heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, or nerve damage.
Everyone can reduce the risk of diabetes with the simple 3 A's technique:
1.Diet: Control your food intake, maintain a healthy weight, limit portion sizes and calories, and avoid high-energy foods like sugary drinks, foods with added sugars, fried foods, coconut milk, and baked goods.
2.Exercise: Move your body regularly and stay active.
3.Emotions: Balance your emotions and reduce stress.
Learn how to manage your emotions or practice meditation to reduce stress, as stress causes the body to release cortisol, which can trigger an increase in blood sugar levels.
Good health starts with us. By making small changes to our daily habits, we can reduce the risk of diabetes. Start taking care of yourself today for a strong and sustainable future.
