Flat Feet: Why do you need personalized insoles?

Flat feet (Pes Planus)

It is a condition in which the inner arch of the foot is flat, causing the entire sole of the foot to contact the ground while standing, which can lead to pain in the feet, ankles, knees or back. Using a custom-designed insole is therefore essential to relieve symptoms and balance the structure of the foot.

Why do we need to custom-cut insoles?

Each person's foot is unique, whether it's the shape, arch curve or weight distribution. Using general ready-made insoles may not be able to provide the support and correct the problem accurately. Insoles that are cut and designed by experts will be adjusted to fit the foot structure of each patient precisely, helping:

๐ Arch Support: Strengthens and maintains collapsed arches.
๐ Distributes pressure: Reduces excessive pressure on one area of the soles.
๐ Ankle alignment: Helps keep the ankle in proper alignment, reducing excessive inward twisting (Overpronation).
๐ Relieve pain: Reduce stress and overwork of muscles and tendons in the feet and legs.

Both Podiatrists (foot specialists) can design and adjust the insoles.

Podiatrist: Trained in foot and ankle assessment, has a deep understanding of the biomechanics of the foot and can comprehensively assess problems.

Shoe insole design techniques:

A podiatrist or prosthetist may use a variety of techniques to design a customized insole, such as:
๐ Inverted Bake Device: A traditional foot print technique that uses mold modification while the material is still soft to create a precise arch support shape.
๐ Modified Root Device: This concept focuses on controlling the position of the heel bone (Calcaneus) to be in the correct alignment to affect the overall function of the foot.
๐ Intrinsic and Extrinsic Adjustment: Both intrinsic (increase or decrease the density of some materials) and extrinsic (extract) (adding side reinforcements) adjustments to control foot movement.
๐ Kirby Skive: A technique for modifying the side edges of the insole at the heel to control inward twisting of the foot.
๐ Pressure Distribution: The insole design takes into account the even distribution of pressure on the soles of the feet to reduce points with excessive pressure.
