Will Scars Still Be Visible After a Moustache Transplant?

Many people worry that undergoing a moustache or beard transplant will leave noticeable scars on the face. This concern is understandable because surgery is often associated with visible scarring.
In facial hair transplantation, hair follicles are usually collected from the scalp using either the FUE or FUT technique.
Scars in the Donor Area
Both FUE and FUT may leave scars, but their appearance is different.
๐ FUE scars: FUE creates many very small, dot-like scars in the donor area. These marks are usually scattered across the back or sides of the scalp and may be difficult to notice once they have healed, especially when the surrounding hair is kept at a suitable length.
๐ FUT scars: FUT leaves a linear scar where a strip of scalp is removed, usually across the back of the head. The scar can normally be covered by the surrounding hair, although it may become more visible if the hair is cut very short.
Will Scars Be Visible on the Face?
People may also worry that the recipient area will show scars after the moustache or beard has been shaved.
During the transplant, the doctor creates very small openings in the facial skin to insert the hair grafts. These openings are extremely small and generally heal without leaving clearly visible scars.
During the early recovery period, the treated area may show:
๐ Mild redness
๐ Small scabs around the transplanted hairs
๐ Temporary swelling or sensitivity
These effects usually improve gradually as the skin heals.
Once the recovery process is complete, scars in the transplanted moustache or beard area are generally very difficult to see. Even after shaving, the recipient sites are usually not clearly noticeable when the procedure has been performed correctly and the skin has healed normally.
However, the final appearance may depend on individual wound healing, skin type, the technique used, and the experience of the surgeon. People with a history of raised or keloid scars should inform the doctor before undergoing the procedure.
