KDMS Reinforces Leadership in Orthopedics, Advances Toward Center of Excellence in Endoscopic Spine Surgery

KDMS (Khordee Meesuk Orthopedic Hospital) has strengthened its position as a leader in spine care by elevating its expertise in Endoscopic Spine Surgery to international standards, aiming to become a specialized Center of Excellence. The hospital provides comprehensive care across all levels of case complexity under the concept of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) — offering smaller incisions, less pain, minimal blood loss, faster recovery, and quicker return to daily life compared to traditional open surgery.

Over 120,000 Patients in Four Years Reflect Rising Demand

Between January 2022 and the present (2025), KDMS has treated more than 120,000 patients, representing a cumulative average growth rate of approximately 25% over the past four years. This trend reflects increasing patient preference for specialized hospitals providing advanced, focused care.

Among these, spine-related conditions account for approximately 12% of total patients, or more than 13,000 cases. The growth aligns with Thailand’s aging population. At the same time, a notable increase has been observed among working-age patients aged 30–45, driven by active lifestyles that combine demanding work schedules with intensive exercise — factors that may accelerate spinal and joint degeneration.

According to Thailand’s Department of Medical Services, more than 6 million Thais suffer from degenerative bone and joint conditions.

Expertise Makes the Difference in Endoscopic Spine Surgery

Dr. Tanapol Wangteeraprasert, Managing Director of KDMS, stated:

“Endoscopic Spine Surgery is not differentiated by access to technology alone, but by the level of expertise of the physicians and clinical team — particularly in complex cases that require experience, sound clinical judgment, and collaborative teamwork.”

KDMS is one of the few hospitals in Thailand capable of performing endoscopic spine surgery across all spinal regions, supported by advanced technology and a highly specialized medical team.

Over the past four years, more than 70% of spinal surgeries at KDMS have utilized endoscopic techniques, considered today’s advanced minimally invasive surgical standard. Patients typically require only 1–3 days of hospitalization, depending on the condition and complexity of the case.

Comprehensive Coverage of Major Spine Conditions

Dr. Korakot Thamphongsri, Director of KDMS, emphasized that the hospital differentiates itself through a Group Practice model, supported by a team of more than nine spine specialists who collaboratively plan treatment for complex cases.

All Endoscopic Spine Surgery at KDMS covers major spinal conditions, including:

   - Disc Herniation
Targeted removal of herniated disc material compressing nerves, relieving pain, numbness, and weakness with minimal impact on surrounding muscles and tissues compared to open surgery.

   - Spinal Stenosis
Endoscopic decompression to enlarge the nerve canal, reducing back pain and radiating leg pain while improving mobility.

   - Spondylolisthesis
In selected cases, endoscopic techniques can be combined with spinal fusion to minimize surgical trauma and accelerate recovery, depending on severity and individual evaluation.

Expanding Toward the ASEAN Market

Although KDMS primarily serves Thai patients, the hospital has seen a steady rise in international patients seeking treatment. Thailand’s orthopedic and spine care capabilities are increasingly competitive with developed countries in the ASEAN region.

“Thailand has strong potential to develop into a regional orthopedic medical hub in the long term, which aligns with KDMS’s strategic growth vision,” Dr. Korakot stated.

The advancement toward a Center of Excellence in Endoscopic Spine Surgery not only addresses demand from Thailand’s aging society but also supports working-age individuals seeking to maintain mobility and long-term quality of life in today’s active lifestyle era.
