Breast Lift

Breast Lift, also known as Mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to lift and reshape breasts that have drooped or lost firmness over time. The procedure removes excess skin and tightens surrounding breast tissue to create a firmer and more elevated breast contour.

At Yanhee International Hospital, Breast Lift surgery is offered for patients who experience sagging breasts, stretched skin, enlarged areolas, or nipples and areolas that point downward. The procedure may be suitable for patients in good physical health, non-smokers, and those with fully developed breasts.

Treatment Approach

Breast Lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes around 2–3 hours. The surgeon selects the appropriate technique based on the degree of breast sagging, breast shape, skin condition, and the patient’s expected outcome.

Common techniques include the Anchor Technique, which involves incisions around the areola, vertically down the breast, and along the breast crease. This method is often used for more significant sagging. Another option is the Peri-areolar Technique, where the incision is made around the border of the areola and is generally suitable for mild to moderate breast sagging.

Preparation Before Surgery

Before surgery, patients receive instructions from the surgeon regarding smoking, medication, alcohol intake, fasting, and hospital preparation. General recommendations include stopping smoking at least two weeks before surgery, avoiding alcohol before the procedure, and fasting for at least six hours before surgery.

Patients taking hormonal pills, herbal supplements, or medications that may affect surgery should inform the doctor. Those with underlying medical conditions may need medical clearance before proceeding.

Recovery and Aftercare

After Breast Lift surgery, patients are encouraged to walk slowly as soon as possible to support circulation. Most patients may return to work after about 10 days, depending on their recovery and the surgeon’s advice. Strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and physical contact with the breasts should be avoided for around 3–4 weeks.

A supportive bra is usually recommended after the bandages are removed and may need to be worn continuously during the early recovery period. Underwire bras are generally avoided for several months or until approved by the surgeon. Full wound maturation and final results may gradually develop over 6–12 months.

Possible Risks

As with any surgery, Breast Lift carries potential risks. These may include scarring, bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, changes in nipple or breast sensation, breast asymmetry, contour irregularity, swelling, bruising, fluid accumulation, persistent pain, anesthesia-related risks, or the need for revision surgery. Breast Lift surgery may also affect mammogram interpretation and breastfeeding in some cases, so patients should discuss these concerns with the surgeon before treatment.
