Chronic diseases in children are still commonly found, such as allergies, insomnia, ADHD Attentional deficit disorder, digestive disorder, or autism.

Dietary supplements for children can help prevent and reduce the rate of occurrence of the above mentioned disorders, including:

1. Vitamin D3 :

is essential for overall health, strengthens the immune system, and helps increase the absorption of calcium for bone formation. It is commonly found in sea fish and liver, which children do not usually eat regularly. It can also be found in cereal made from grains, orange juice, and dairy products, but these often contain insufficient amounts of Vitamin D3. Children should receive additional Vitamin D3 from sunlight and dietary supplements. Young children should receive 300–1000 IU per day, and 2000 IU per day for teenagers.

2. Iron :

helps prevent anemia. Iron deficiency may be one of the causes of insomnia, anxiety, depression, as well as symptoms of ADHD Attentional deficit and hyperactivity disorder.

3. Zinc :

helps strengthen the immune system and is essential for overall health. It reduces the risk of brain and mental disorders, such as stress and attention deficit.Omega 3 fatty acid is good for the brain and heart and also has anti inflammation effects. It is commonly found in flax seed and sea fish, which children may not receive enough of because parents and guardians are often concerned about mercury contamination in fish meat.

4. Prebiotics and probiotics :

help cultivate and build good bacteria in the intestines. Prebiotics are food for probiotic bacteria. Digestive system disorders may lead to illnesses such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome IBS, depression, or obesity, which can be corrected by using prebiotics and probiotics. These are found in fermented foods such as pickled vegetables, yogurt, and soy milk, but many parents do not support children eating these foods. Therefore, they should be specially supplemented through dietary supplements, such as prebiotic cookies.

Problems That Should Be Known About Dietary Supplement Products for Children

  1. Low concentration or insufficient nutrient amounts for the child’s body may result in the body not being able to use them effectively or not being enough to correct the child’s illness symptoms.
  2. Too much sugar is added, making the product sweet and liked by children, but only a small amount of nutrients is added, resulting in no benefit. It may cause harm from consuming too much sugar instead.
  3. Parents and guardians lack correct knowledge about the types and amounts of dietary supplements that should be used appropriately according to age, body weight, or illness symptoms, causing them to choose dietary supplement products incorrectly.
