China Launches First Domestically Produced 9-Valent HPV Vaccine
Beijing, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — China’s health authorities announced the launch of the country’s first domestically developed 9-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. The first dose was administered on Tuesday (Sept. 9) in Xiamen, Fujian Province, in southeast China, marking a new step in expanding cervical cancer prevention for women aged 9–45.

The first dose was administered on Tuesday (Sept. 9) in Xiamen, Fujian Province, in southeast China, marking a new step in expanding cervical cancer prevention for women aged 9–45.
According to the report, those aged 9–17 will need two doses of the vaccine, while women aged 18–45 will require three doses.
Cervical cancer is among the most common cancers in women worldwide. HPV is linked to around 700,000 cancer cases annually, of which about 530,000 are cervical cancer. The remaining cases are associated with anal cancer, vaginal cancer, penile cancer, and others.
Vaccination is considered a crucial preventive measure. When administered properly, this vaccine is up to 94% effective in preventing HPV infections.
