Xiamen — Wang Zhongwu, a 50-year-old man from Xiamen, Fujian Province, China, began volunteering as a blood donor in 1998. Over the past 26 years, he has donated blood 180 times, helping to save between 600 and 700 lives.

Wang is now the founding president of the Siming District Urban Volunteer Association in Xiamen. Inspired by martial arts novels in his youth, which portrayed heroic characters, he viewed blood donation as a courageous act that could save lives.

Initially, Wang’s family and friends opposed his decision, fearing it would harm his health. However, after trying it, he found that it actually led him to a healthier lifestyle. He maintains a strict exercise routine and follows a nutritious diet to ensure his blood meets quality standards each time he donates.

Today, Wang's wife and daughter each donate blood twice a year, and many of his friends have also started donating. His volunteer association has established a blood donation team, which has made a significant impact over the past one to two years.

Wang shared that each time he donates, he receives messages from the blood center confirming that his donation has been successfully processed and sent to hospitals to help those in need. These messages give him a sense of fulfillment, knowing he is saving lives.

Wang emphasized his commitment to raising awareness about blood donation and encouraging more people to volunteer as donors.
