Thailand’s Department of Disease Control Partners with WHO to Advance Digital Technology for Injury Surveillance Aiming to Reduce Road Accident Fatalities in Line with SDG 3.6

The Department of Disease Control (DDC), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO Thailand), organized the 2nd National Injury Surveillance Conference to promote the development of digital technology and strengthen Thailand’s injury surveillance data system. The initiative aims to enhance prevention efforts and sustainably reduce deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.6 — to halve global road traffic fatalities by 2030.

 

 

Held from November 6–7, 2025, at TK Palace Hotel & Convention, Bangkok, the conference was conducted under the theme “Advancing the Injury Surveillance System (IS) Towards Sustainability.” The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, showcasing innovations and best practices in the use of injury surveillance data to inform policy and improve prevention strategies. More than 350 participants from across the country attended, including representatives from hospitals, local health authorities, and partner agencies.

The DDC stated that the Injury Surveillance (IS) System is a key tool for collecting and analyzing data on injury and death from all causes, particularly road traffic accidents recorded in hospital emergency departments. The data are used to guide prevention measures, policy formulation, and quality improvement of emergency care and referral systems — with the goal of saving more lives and improving outcomes for injured patients.

The agency also emphasized that developing a digital injury surveillance platform supports the Ministry of Public Health’s policy to use technology to increase efficiency, reduce the workload of frontline personnel, and ensure greater accuracy in data management.

During the event, awards were presented to recognize hospitals and practitioners with outstanding contributions to injury surveillance, including IS Excellence Hospital Awards 2025, Outstanding Project Awards, and Best Poster Awards.

The DDC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Thailand’s injury surveillance system through digital innovation and inter-agency collaboration, helping to build a more resilient, data-driven public health infrastructure and reduce the impact of injuries nationwide.
