Does frequently wearing a hat really cause “baldness”?

Many people have heard the belief that "wearing a hat every day causes hair loss." Is this really true? This article aims to clarify this common misconception.

Frequent hat wearing is not a direct cause of hair loss. The most common cause of androgenetic alopecia is hereditary predisposition, with a positive family history involving first-degree relatives, such as parents, grandparents, or siblings.

Other causes of hair loss include cicatricial (scarring) alopecia and non-scarring alopecia, such as alopecia areata and telogen effluvium.

Importantly, scalp moisture or bacterial and fungal colonization associated with prolonged hat use has not been established as a direct cause of hair loss.

Individuals experiencing hair thinning or hair loss should consult a dermatologist for an appropriate clinical evaluation, accurate diagnosis, and individualized management.

After a hair transplant, if you want to wash your hair… is it allowed?

Patients may shampoo their hair immediately after hair transplantation. However, the scalp should be handled gently. If shampoo is used, vigorous rubbing should be avoided. Instead, gently massage the scalp and allow the water to rinse naturally, or lightly pat the scalp with the fingertips.
