Why is Alprazolam a Controlled Medication?

Why is Alprazolam a Controlled Medication?

Alprazolam is marketed under various brand names, such as “Zanaxolam.” In medical practice, alprazolam is used to relieve or treat anxiety and panic disorders, and it may also be prescribed as a sleep aid when necessary, as it is highly effective for these conditions.

Doctors will determine the appropriate dosage on an individual basis. Alprazolam acts quickly, typically within about 20 minutes after ingestion. However, like a double-edged sword, it also carries risks. Some users may experience memory loss, meaning they cannot recall events after taking the medication. This has led to its misuse in cases of sexual assault, as victims may be unable to remember what happened. The effects of the drug usually last no longer than one day, and it can be eliminated from the body through urine, especially with adequate fluid intake.

Additionally, long-term use can lead to both physical and psychological dependence. If the medication is stopped abruptly, withdrawal symptoms may occur, such as nausea, insomnia, rapid heartbeat, restlessness, depression, psychosis, or even seizures.

Importantly, there are serious safety concerns when combining alprazolam with other substances.

If taken together with other medications-especially those that depress or stimulate the nervous system-it is essential to consult a doctor first. Many drugs can interact with alprazolam, altering its levels in the bloodstream and potentially leading to severe or dangerous effects.

Additionally, taking alprazolam with alcohol can significantly enhance its sedative effects, leading to excessive central nervous system depression and potentially suppressing breathing, which may result in respiratory failure.

Therefore, the use of this class of medication should be under the supervision of a qualified physician, with clear indications for use and regular monitoring to assess whether continued use is necessary, and discontinued appropriately when no longer needed.

“Monkeypox” Currently Spreading in Thailand: A Thai Traditional Medicine Perspective

In today’s world, where we continue to face the spread of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as monkeypox, understanding diseases through multiple perspectives can help us respond more comprehensively. Although classical Thai traditional medical texts do not directly describe “viruses,” as this body of knowledge was developed before the scientific discovery of microorganisms, the symptoms and characteristics of this disease can still be meaningfully interpreted through ancient Thai medical theory.

Medical Tourism in Thailand: Where Getting Well Feels Like the Trip of a Lifetime

Imagine waking up in Bangkok, overlooking the Chao Phraya River as long-tail boats drift past your window. Hours later, you've completed a full health screening at a world-class hospital, reviewed your results, and are enjoying iced coffee by a rooftop pool before dinner at Asiatique.
