Description

Femto LASIK Service – Eye Bangkok Hospital

Blade-Free LASIK with High-Precision Laser Technology

Femto LASIK is an advanced vision correction procedure that creates a corneal flap using a Femtosecond Laser (blade-free), followed by corneal reshaping with an Excimer Laser. It effectively treats myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.

Key benefits include faster healing, minimal downtime, and a lower risk of certain complications compared with traditional blade-based LASIK. Our ophthalmologists perform a detailed eye assessment to determine the most suitable treatment for each individual.

What is Femto LASIK?

Femto LASIK is a modern LASIK technique that uses a Femtosecond Laser to create a precise corneal flap without a blade often referred to as “bladeless LASIK.” An Excimer Laser then reshapes the inner cornea based on personalized measurements, allowing light to focus accurately on the retina for clearer vision.

Key Benefits

  • - More precise and uniform corneal flap creation, with controlled depth and thickness

  • - Low-energy, high-precision laser helps reduce impact on surrounding tissue and supports faster recovery

  • - Reduced risk of certain flap-related complications compared with blade-based methods

  • - Short recovery time, enabling a quicker return to daily activities

  • - Short procedure time, helping minimize anxiety and discomfort

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

Suitability is determined individually by an ophthalmologist. In general, candidates may include those who:

  • - Are 20 years or older with stable vision for at least one year

  • - Have refractive errors within a suitable range (as assessed by the doctor)

  • - Have healthy corneas and no significant eye diseases (e.g., severe dry eye, glaucoma, keratoconus, etc.)

  • - Have no underlying conditions that may affect wound healing (medical history will be reviewed)

  • - Are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and are not planning pregnancy soon after surgery as advised by the doctor

Procedure Overview

Before surgery, a comprehensive eye evaluation is performed such as refraction tests, eye pressure measurement, dry eye assessment, corneal imaging, and retinal examination to plan the procedure safely and accurately.

Femto LASIK steps (summary):

  1. - Topical anesthetic eye drops and sterile preparation

  2. - Corneal flap creation using the Femtosecond Laser

  3. - Corneal reshaping using the Excimer Laser

  4. - Flap repositioning and alignment check

  5. - Protective eye shield and scheduled follow-up visits

Postoperative Care

  • - Use prescribed eye drops/medications strictly (including artificial tears if needed)

  • - Wear an eye shield during sleep initially to avoid rubbing the eyes

  • - Avoid water, sweat, dust, smoke, and contaminants during the first week

  • - Avoid eye makeup as recommended

  • - Avoid night driving early on if vision is still fluctuating

  • - Wear sunglasses during daytime for about one month

  • - Avoid swimming for about one month; deep diving as advised by your doctor

  • - Attend all follow-up appointments and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms worsen

Possible Temporary Side Effects

Itching, irritation, stinging sensation, tearing, light sensitivity, or fluctuating vision may occur initially and usually improve over time. Seek prompt medical advice if you experience:

  • - Severe light sensitivity

  • - Worsening or progressively blurred vision

  • - Significant dryness, pain, swelling, or signs of infection
