Egg Freezing

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a process where a woman's eggs are extracted, frozen, and stored for future use. This method is often used by women who want to delay childbearing for personal or medical reasons, such as pursuing career goals, undergoing cancer treatment, or preserving fertility due to aging. The egg retrieval process is similar to that used in IVF, involving hormone stimulation to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved from the ovaries and frozen using a method called vitrification, which prevents the formation of ice crystals that could damage the eggs. When the woman decides to use the frozen eggs, they are thawed, fertilized with sperm, and implanted into the uterus through IVF. Egg freezing offers women more control over their reproductive timelines, though it does not guarantee pregnancy, and success rates vary depending on the woman’s age and the quality of the eggs at the time of freezing.
